Hi all,

I actually had a go at drawing out my plans for a small 5-gallon cube (aka freebie from PFK!) aquascape project I am soon to start setting up. I am looking to create a very specific 'theme' which is inspired (perhaps strangely!) by many of the roadside landscape formations I see driving around in Northumberland. I will be making use of some oak twigs in part of the tank to give the appearance of trees but am currently stuck on the planting to go at the back of the tank: some will be behind these twigs (which will likely only cover a certain area of the base) and some will be directly in view. There will be some hardscape aswell in the form of rocks to create the feeling/atmosphere I am aiming for.

The background planting is where the drawing helped me get a bit stuck (which is good!): I was thinking of using a taller 'grass' style plant to one area of the back, overlapping another area (behind the twigs) of a stem plant which has small individual leaves (cannot think of the latin for this one off the top of my head). I am now wondering whether, given the actual size of the tank, I may be better off with a single type of plant for the background, probably the stem one? I am still planning to have some form of overlap between two areas of this, split by hardscape, but I don't know which option of planting would help with the overall feel of size from the finished design?

Advice welcome :)
