I've been left to look after a friends tank. It has 4 guppies and two apple snails. Im not sure on the tank size so please don't ask

I noticed today one of the gups has two small white lumps on its dorsal fin. This is not apparent on any other animals in the tank. He also has a large chest which i was not aware of last time i was here. This is also apparent on the small yellow gup without the lumps as seen the the pictures.
Both are eating and swimming fine, the water level records seem fine. She last performed a test on thursday.

Any idea's what it could be?

any help would be much appreciated!! =]

I don't know what they are, but I am glad to see that someone else has the same question. I noticed one of my male swords has those same lumps...but they don't seem to affect him. He is still very active and eats well.

How long has he had them? have they spread to any of the others? I have noticed one of the other guppies to be quite nippy. Wondered if it was scarred tissue or something

They haven't spread to any of the other fishes, and I don't think he is being nipped at cause he seems to be the alpha male in the tank. He has had them as long as I can remember and he seems to be quite happy. It may be some kind of scarring from the tank he was in prior, or some sort of medical anomaly. I don't want to mess with it and run the risk of him getting stressed, so I am leaving well enough alone.

The fact that their bellies are so big is worrisome. I'm thinking it might be a parasite of some kind.

Those bellies are rather large. Like Old Spouse thinks, it might be a parasite or it could be a case of overfeeeding.

I'll have to take a picture of mine for you. Mine has those same lumps, but his tummy is not large or distended....I don't know what to think of it.

any idea's as to how to treat it?
I suppose if i don't know what it is theres not much i can do other than water changes.

I spent a few hours today watching the tank and noticed not only her apple snails mating but the smaller black male guppy is very boisterous and likes to nip the others.

Thanks for the help, i'd just feel guilty if they died as i've been asked to look after them!

Do a big water change and don't feed for at least a day. They'll be fine without eating for several days, so don't worry about hurting them by skipping a day. Then let us know if anything changes.
