a couple days ago i noticed some small white dots on the glass. they don't move and when i look at them very close they kinda look like small spiral snail shells. i have a few astrea snails in my tank. are they baby snails or some kind of parasite? my fish and shrimp seem fine and have normal behavior. if they are snails, is there some way to get rid of them? or is it something else i need to worry about?

thanks,
chris

i think i have the same thing, is your tank new also? they kinda look like starfish shape to me, maybe brittlestarrs? however some of mine have way more than 5 legs. i just wipe them off with my magfloat.

dont worry about it. they are small filter feeders. common in every tank and do no harm. wipe them off the viewing side and leave them on the rest.

These sound like they may be Hydroid Jellyfish. I had these white dots with legs when I first set up. They are harmless and become fodder for your first tank occupants.

See my thread for some pictures to confirm.
