:X well heres the thing. i have a 20 liter tank , and i thought - nice , i have a heater and filter with it. just looking at the heater now i realise that it is a heater for a 24-40 us gallon! will the heater way overheat the tank. do i just set it to low temperatures to achieve high ones?

Supposedly, there are heaters out there that only turn on when the temperature of the water drops below your set limit. But, in my experience this is not the case. If I want my water temperature to be 78 degrees in summer-time, I have to set the thermomemter to 74. But, during winter months, the heater has to be set at 80 to maintain 78. I said all that to say this: you have to find whichever setting on your heater will provide you with the temperature you desire. In other words, a heater capable of heating a much larger aquarium will not hurt, so long as you are able to find a setting that gives you the desired results. This is my belief, anyway.
