I've read and heard that bettas like small tanks/bowls...so why is it better to keep them in a tank?

They don't actually like small spaces, that's actually a myth. That was started because in the dry season, their ponds start to dry up, and so they survive in small puddles for a bit. It would be like throwing you in a closet, never letting you out, and throwing you food daily. Would you survive? Yes. Would you be happy and like it? I don't think so! So, they like the space, its great for them! In the wild they live in rice paddies, which are actually quite large!

Thanks...I knew it WAS better...I just wanted to be able to explain it to my mom :) Thank you! :)

More than welcome, I had to convince my mom of the same thing xD

i find it incredibly cruel keeping a siamese in one of those 1/4 gallon (aprox 1L) permanantly but thats personal opinion they prefer a larger tank like MissMarie said and its a myth that they like small tanks. I don't want to re-write what missmarie said so il just give her +1

yeh i agree no small tanks :) they are alot happier in larger tanks :) the only other time you should put them in those tanks if you have compatability issue and have to remove them and dont have a new tank for them yet like my brothers or if they are injured or ill not the best but some times need must

anyway i have mine in a 130L tank with a juvy eel 2 khuli loaches 3 frogs 3 bn and a hillstream loach and 2 congo tetras :) ( i do realise some issues but ill come across them when they arise :) ) any way they do better in larger tanks but not too large they can find it intimedating :)

In my own experience they do MUCH MUCH better in larger tanks. While I was inexperienced and had no knowledge of fish at all I had a Betta in a little one gallon tank, as soon as I upgraded him to a 15 gallon tank he became more active. And acted happier and healthier. :good:

I just upgraded mine from a two gallon bowl to a 5.5 gallon tank :D he is super stressed out right now and just laying on the bottom in the corner, but hopefully he will come back
