Hi Everyone,

Just felt like I needed to have a bit of a moan. :( I have been on this forum for quite a while, and although not a huge poster, I enjoy reading other peoples posts, looking at other people’s setups, and helping out where I can, with the little knowledge I have.
I had a fish death yesterday :-( My first in quite a long time, and felt like putting a post in the emergency section, to see if anyone may have any ideas what may have happened to my fish, apart from one helpful response, all I got was someone moaning at me about what tank I have, that I shouldn’t have the fish that I've got, bossing me around making me sound like I'm a terrible fish keeper. :grr:
As I'm sure many of you would agree, this was the last thing that I wanted to hear, and was not at all appreciated. I agree that yes I don’t have the biggest tank in the world, but it is my first tank, and like many when I started out (over 2 years ago) I didn't know half of what I do now. So I am aware that my angels will get big, that my clown loach is lonely, and the pleco that has died would have got much bigger! I am not an idiot!
I would love to have a massive tank, but at my present time I still live at home with my parents so I just do not have the space, I plan to move out next year, so of course will be getting something considerable larger then. I love my fish and am in no way mean to them for keeping them in the tank that I have.
Anyway sorry about that, I feel better now.

Thanks to all those who actually help. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just moaning at someone, about something that you hadn’t even asked about.

Thanks

Steph

It's ok, were all here to learn, we get it wrong in the beginning but if you take action and change things, your'e not a bad fish keeper, alot of the time it's bad lfs giving bad advice to beginners, just to make a sale and the fish keeper is left with the problems.

I'm fairly new to fishkeeping, but one thing that I've learned is that there are a lot of different opinions on just about everything. It gets a little frustrating at times trying to figure out the right things to do. I also have a small tank and not all of us have the luxury of having a big tank. I think that it is true that maintaining a small tank can be a little more difficult than a larger tank, but as long as you maintain good water quality and test the water frequently everything should be o.k. Hang in there! :D

I'm sorry to hear your fish died :(

And I know it's annoying when people criticise your tanks or stocking, but usually these people have a good motive i.e. they want you to understand how to best care for your fish. I dunno about everyone else but i would rather people told me stuff likethat BEFORE it was too late and my fish died from overcrowding or whatever. Im sorry you found it upsetting though, just remember it is hard to tell on a forum, how much people already know. :)

I too am sorry about your loss.

I think I am one of the people who 'moaned' at you. Let me just say I'm sorry if this upset you but I always answer posts with the fish's best interests in mind. I don't usualy think much about the owner though maybe I should. I have no way of knowing what you already know (not reffering to you specificaly but to anyone that posts) or what they plan to do in future. I also cannot tell by a post whether the people involved care about their fish or not.
I think I would rather tell people what they already know than risk not telling people something they realy need to know but don't.

Sorry about the loss. I went through the same thing when I started out. I bought a Teacup Stingray (Hense my Screen name), and put it in my 30g. I came to find later that he would get far too large for my tank. He eventually died because of a power outage and I wans't home. I'm afraid the bulk of us are going to go through this. Hope you can eventually upgrade when you move out. People on the forums are just trying to help, but they may not come across that way, I know. Best of luck. :)
