I ask this as Iv been doing some reading on the site, and I would just like to see what colour of lights people on the site are using.

Iv just replace one of my lights its blue 10k and my god its a nightmare green algae it growing all over the glass. :( (The silly man at pets are dead told me it will help the plants grow)

So now a have a One pink 7.1k/14k and white light and one all blue 10k light.

Thanks

Edit= Spellings

Iv been thinking of making a CO2 bottle I just don't want to mess up.

how could you mess it up? Just use a check valve. Personally i wasn't happy with the plastic soda bottle so i opted for the nutrafin system.

my lighting is 2*28 watts of HOT5's and i only get brown algae (most probably because its a new tank).

if your dosing regimes are in line you should get very little algae, if non at all

i use 6700K which is white, although it has a very large green spike in the spectrum which brings out the greens of plants (obviously lol)

Different algae species are triggered by different factors. It sounds like Green dust algae or green spot algae.

GSA is cause by low phosphate, although it is usually inevitable to get a few tiny spots on the glass.

GDA is caused by an imbalance of nutrients, ammonia spike and it usually folows on from Diatoms.

I never get algae. I use a 40w yellowish bulb along with a 15w daylight white bulb. I couldn't tell it was yellow though without the daylight bulb.

omg aaron, i use 2 6500K! so similar, i havent had much algae issues since i halved my lighting,

i have an easy set up now, 1wpg, growing
anubias barteri and nana
java fern and moss
vallis
crypts
alternanthera and even rotala, with it going pink!

Its green spot algae that I have am going to give D.I.Y co2 ago and see how I get on.
