Small Platy Drops

Hiya!

One of my platys had her babies the other day. I didnt know she`d had them, my partner spoted them hidin in the plants.

We only found 4 fry though ( now in a hatchery (sp) )

Are the fish helping themselves to a free feed or did she just have a small brood ?

depends how old she is and her size. Some may drop 3-8 while others drop 30+ at once LOL. It all depend son the fish.

the other fish more than likely had a snack, although i have had fully grown guppies have about 8 big healthy fry in one drop

Dont know how old she is. They are about 2cm.

Dont mind the small drops. Means i wont get over run with fry.

either young female or dwarfs then, i prefered smaller drops with my guppies, i ended up haveing more survive, rarely lost 1

that is true LOL! give it time she will have more within a month i bet.

How old do they fry have to be before they can breed ?

I only had one make it from the very first drop, all other got snacked on cos i saw them

She is around 2 months old now and half the size of the adults.

Dint want the males getting their dirty little fins on her lol

well as soon as you ca sex them there able to breed, males usually earlier than females though.

Think i might have to give them "the talk" lol

Either that or the LFS are going to be getting lots of platy fry

beware, most LFS won't take platy or other livebearers until a certain size or even not at all.
