Well my fry are reaching the 4 wee old mark

I decided to start a new thread since the other thread was getting big

Well right now There still getting MWs and BBS

The MWs are not that much of a big hit but some fry still get to them

the BBS sometimes dies off so I got frozen BBS to replace

The fry are starting to look like babie bettas instead of guppy fry...LOL

A lot of them are starting to get close to the top

I guess there labrynght organ is kicking in

Im gonna try to get off BBS of there diets to get SD out of the picture

So there not getting fed BBS that much only once a day

Insted there getting frozen BBS and Frozen Daphina

the grindal worm culture is still kicking in

QUESTIONS

Ok I got a simple question my spawn wasnt that big well it was I just dont got many fry. Anyways I see about 25-50 fry left. Maybe less maybe more. Anyways do I gotta get a grow-out tank since this is a small spawn?

I got a 20 gallon long tank but it doesnt have lights and it doesnt have a heater

So I was wondering if they should go in a grow-out tank?

Im using a 10 gallon tank half-way

But im adding more water every week

There getting 25-50% Water chnages everyday

What do u guys think?

When should I start seeing ventrals?

Just bumping in to let you know people do care ;) I just read through all 9 pages of your first thread, and now I'm here! :p Was suprised to see noone posted here yet to be honest with you! :)

I'm glad the ones remaining are doing this well, you must be a proud betta parent!
Just a question, probably silly, but hey! :p With male bettas being this aggressive towards eachother ... doesnt this mean that in a while the fry will start killing eachother? I never understood this, cause I really cant see anyone have 200 jars with baby bettas in it! :p

Well Erised

When there growing up they really dont kill eachother but play rough

Especially when it comes to nipping if there strong boys they wont get killed but sometimes some do die

Also a spawn s sometimes from 200-400 fry But many of them wont make it

People end up with about 100+ fry sometimes even more

But most of the time there all females so u just get around 40% males

Lets see I know f250fisherman has around 80 beanie babie boxes

Ill find u a link.......

That would explain a lot :D ... I dont think I could ever do all the work it takes to raise baby bettas, so really, in my eyes you're doing a hell of a job! :D

Good luck with the rest of the pretties, and I'll make sure to keep checking back ;)

I think you'll have to watch and wait. Sounds good for now, and if there's only 25, you might be able to get away with just jarring the bigger ones sooner. But that makes more work for you, changing jar water daily and the 10g. I'd set up the 20 as the growout.

The added benefit is that the 10g will be free for the next spawn... :hey:

Great! :D

When should I start seeing ventrals?

Wuv sees hers around 3-4 weeks, she was saying. I didn't notice mine until about 5 or 6 weeks, but they could have been there earlier, hard to say.

They look great and congratulations  ......with all these bettas you think I would have tried to breed them by now....but I am too scared. :X :-(

Thanks Freshmike

Well I guess ill sstick with the 10 gallon

But I want to use the 10 gallon tank agian for breeding

But the problem is that the 20 doesnt have a light or heater....

Joker, what do you feed your grindals?
I feed them Oatmeal(Cooked)

Or When Im out of that Baby Food(Powder) and mix it with water

BUMP

Can anybody answer the quesions above?

I want more opinions

thanks Cation

I found some 63 litter Tubs for grow-outs

Ill just buy some lights a heater and a Bigger Sponge filter

Also can anybody back this up

I have to wait till there labrynth oragan has developed to move them to the grow outs?

You don't have to wait until they get their labyrinths, but you might want to just because. I'm always scared to move them until they start gathering at the front. Then you can just scoop them into a cup. Right now what's the plan....chasing them with nets?
Your new set up sounds like it will be fine.

If it was me, I'd set up the 20 gal as a growout. Within a week of moving them, you will see a huge jump in the growth. By 4 weeks old, the 10 should have been full of water. The betta fry secrete a chemical to stunt the growth of the other betta fry. More water= less chemical concentration. At 8-10 weeks old, you will see the fry getting testy with each other. Not the playing stuff, like they are doing now. Thats when I start jarring the biggest fry. One here, two there....when you jar, do daily 100% water changes. The more good food you feed, and clean water you change, the better your odds of getting HM's. HM's is not a gene. It is a combination of genes that have the best conditions to grow in. Sooo...I'd get a heater for the 20, and make it a growout.
This was one of my best red cambo fry at 2 mo.-3 weeks old. He had been jarred for 3 weeks.
