Hi, I just converted a 5G tank into a home for my dwarf neon rainbow fry.

In it I have a power filter running on low setting so as to keep water intake minimal , so that my fry wont get sucked up by the intake.

Should i turn off filter or use another kind to prevent fry from going into filter?

Never used a "power filter" but in my fry tank i have 2 very small fluval filters(the smallest of the fluval ones you can get) and my fry tank(10gal) and they are thriving and have no problems with current  ; one should be more than enough for a 5gal tank  .

I had the same problem with my fry tank. I took a hunk of sponge that i use to clean the tank and wrapped it around the intake part. It made the suction less heavy, and also filtered out some of the larger particles.

Use an elastic band to secure a section cut from a pair of tights (pantyhose) over the intake. Be sure to check it a couple of time a day to keep it clear of debris though.

I use Aqua Clear minis for angel fry once they get tto around 3 weeks. Put a piece of nylon stocking over the filter. If you have a spare sponge filter that works even better. Just poke a hole in it with a knife & slide it over the intake.

I always use sponge filters in breeding/rearing tanks. Not only are they safe, the sponge gets colonised by rotifers and other small animals which the fry like to eat. I often find the fry hanging around the sponges.

Yeah that filter will just suck them up.

Sponge Filters work best for fry.
