I have noticed one of my synodontis multipunctata is smaller than the rest (thin) and is lethargic. he sometimes lies on his side and today he got his tail sucked into the intake (no damage, fortunately) but no other fish have a problem restraining the pull, which makes me think he's weak. Could it be that he's not getting enough food since he has to fight the other synos + malawis for food?

I just got them and I just feed pellets, is there something specific I should give for catfish?

Should I separate him to fatten him up?

Isolation to make sure it is getting enough food sounds the way forward, plus you can then hopefully eliminate other possibilities like internal parasites.
