something im conerned about is, i plan to get a lot of small fish for my delta 300 once its finished cycling, tetras, danios, etc but im worried about the huge juwel filter posing a problem.

i remember a long time ago i had a small tank, like 5 UKG and had, among others, 4 purple tetras. one morning i woke up and found all 4 dead and 'attatched' to the inlet holes in the filter. they came away when i shook the filter, but i was never sure if it was the filter that killed them. it did seem rather strange that they were all stuck to the filter, but also strange that they were all tetras (i had some zebra danios in there too and they were fine).

after that 'incident' i covered the whole filter with a stocking and nothing like that ever happened again, but it seemed as if the filtering was less effecient and i had to clean the stocking often, obviously the fine mesh being too small to get bigger particles through.

anyhow, the point of this post; im worried about putting smaller fish in with my jumbo delta filter. should i be?

Put a sponge pre-filter over the intake. It diffuses the suction, adds a little more bio-filtration to your setup, and keeps some of the particles of waste out of the filter. Having a larger surface area than a stocking or screening it gets dirty slower.

not a bad idea, thanks! :)
