Am planning on getting another tank (either rekord 96 or rekord 120) and am just trying to figure out what to to with a new tank.

A marine tank I think will be a bit much for me to take on just now.

So, apart from just getting another pair of medium sized cichlids, I was thinking might go with a brackish tank, but the number of brackish fish is limited (especially by size).

I was playing with the idea of orange chromides and sailfin mollies... these will be the only 2 kinds of fish in th tank. I was wondering if 2 male and 4 female mollies, as well as 4 orang chromides (possibly 6 to try and get at least a pair) would go ok in a 96? Bearing in mind the tank will have a fluval 3 in addition to the standard rekord filtration.

Please, do not quote the inch per gallon rule....

this would get more answers in the brackish forum

oops, I missed that. Oh well, I am sure a mod will move it sooner or later.

I don't use inch per gallon either, so I won't quote it. That being said, I think that Sailfin mollies will get too large for your proposed tank. They can get huge! Not kidding I have seen specimens nearly 7 inches long, truely impressive! A 55g is better suited to really display this species to it's optimum. That would be sufficient room for a pretty good group with more than one male and their half-grown fry. I just think they'll be too crammed in the tank sizes your proposing. I seen people put them in the tanks you're proposing, but these fish, especially the males, with their stunning fins really need the space to display. There are, however, smaller varieties, but LFS are notoriously bad at labeling these fish.

I'm afraid I can't offer much with regard to the orange chromides. Size-wise, they seem to fit better, but either way, if I had a choice between either the 96L or the 120L, I'd take the 120L, you'll have more choices. Again, once this topic is moved to the brackish forum, it'll get more responces.

Thanks lljdma06

Yeah, you are probably right... its just that sailfin mollies are the only livebearers I like and thought would be nice to get some.

Being brackish makes it a bit fussy though. Guess I will just have to forego the pleasure of keeping them. I know some people keep them in freshwater, but I am not going to do this.

Perhaps I will look into the availability of celebes rainbows.....
