I ran into this really great ornament at Petsmart that I feel "completed" the decor of my 10 gallon tank. (Will post pictures soon! Love how it looks with this ornament in it now.)
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?...lmdn=Fish+Decor

My tank has actually been fully cycled for a week now but I'm still holding out on buying fish.
--Still doing tons of research on what to stock it with b/c I'm a bit picky....having a 10 gallon stinks =[
--Don't have much of a choice with a 10 gallon b/c I have to fit it into my small apartment room at school.
--Just want to completely make sure the tank is stable and ready for fish.

My question is: What would be a good bottom dwelling fish that would actually utilize this ornament/cave? I was initially getting a trio of cory cats but I feel like they wouldn't utilize this cave completely. I was also looking at Kuhli Loaches and am considering them or Dwarf Loaches (If I can find them anywhere).

Just would like some opinions because I do not have a lot of experience in this matter.

Thanks! :good:

I have to say Cory Catfish get my vote as they are cool

I have 6 in my tank and they are by for the most interesting as they are always buzzing around the tank.

not sure on the size of the ornament but assuming not that big as its going in a 10 gal

you could always use some small rocks to make a cave for them as well

It's interesting. I really need to take a picture of the tank with the ornament in it to use as a size reference. IMO though the ornament actually provides a really good sized "cave" for the size and all. I will definitely post a picture in the morning to use as reference.

One thing i forgot to mention. One main reason I'm not crazy about the Kuhli Loaches is because my current substrate is gravel but not particularly smooth and I'm afraid it will damage the loaches.

im biased but cory catfish again get my vote dude
I got 4 for teh price of 3 at my LFS as the guy got 4 in the net and couldnt be bothered putting one back so he charged me for 3

they were about 1 cm and are now growing well and now about 1 inch long
my tank is always clean as any spare food is not there for long
on a personal note I can sit and watch them for hours wandering about the tank looking for food and sometimes they even sit in teh air curtain at the back of the tank and ride the bubbles

Yup, cories rule my tank-bottom! Mine don't hide much, though, they're always out and about. Still awesomely entertaining though :D

if you can change the substrate i also recommend corys, i made the change from gravel to sand on a 125ltr tank this week (specifically so i could keep corys in a safe an environment as possible) and it only took an hour or so at the cost of £5.80

For what it's worth, I'd just like to add that you can keep cories with a fine gravel bottom (I do), but nothing sharp.

you can, obviously their natural environment isn't argos play sand, but it certainly gives them the most benefit, my LFS was most pleased to hear that the 3 i was buying were going in a sandy tank and suggested that was the best possible substrate for them.
