I don't think so but I may be wrong my fish stay at the bottom at night not moving i sometimes think they are dead but when i get up in the morning they are normal :fun: I recon they just rest without going to sleep

Yes, fish do not have eyelids, so they basically sit at the bottom motionless. Imagine what you would look like sleeping without eyelids and there you have it!

That would look pretty scary though.

I checked on my tank one morning only to discover my dwarf gourami was dead and amongst the plants. He was totally static, couldn't even see his gills moving. Went and broke the sad news to my wife, she consoled me, went to net him out and all of a sudden he started moving! I freaked out, i'm sure he was just sleeping cuz he's usually VERY aware of any movement outside of the tank and comes to see what's up.

my tiger barbs all go to the back of the tank and go into a head-down-at-45 degrees position and just maintain their position in the water. They do this within 10 mins of lights out no matter what was happening in their little world just before 'bedtime'.

Sometimes they are naughty and try to play after bedtime though....

Of course fish sleep? What do you think they are? :/ U need your sleep! :p

They dont sleep quite the way we do but are more observant of the aquatic world, with a portion of their brain functioning normally. For protection.

Go to you fish tank once lights out and you see them diving into the plants, dulled in colour, and lifeless like.

Fishy dreams must be interesting.......

I hear fish have a lot of wet dreams :hyper:

:p

Sometimes my otos have a restless sleep. I can tell because the combination of the uprooted plants and wet floor in the morning, and the brochis complain about the snoring.

:p
