I normally turn my light off at around 11 or 12pm, before I go to sleep. Well I had just added a clown loach to my tank, and I wanted to make sure he was alright before heading off to sleep.

I looked in the tank at the hiding spot that he now calls home (a hollowed out log) and saw him laying on his side. Fearing he was dead, I turned on the light, at which point he snapped back upright and looked around very confused... as was I...

Is it normal for fish to sleep like this???

My red tail black shark calls a hollow log home and he hide/sleeps in there any way from rightside up nearly upside down, i guess its more in relation to the surface (of what their in) than to gravity in a small space

you are now officially a member of the "clown loach feared dead club"!!

Clown loaches "sleep" on their sides all the time. Its just something they do and absolutely nothing to worry about.

Just to forewarn you...they also CLICK loudly when playing happily or eating  so don't start panicking when this happens too.

Enjoy them...they are fantastic fish!

Hehe, that's pretty odd. If you put a male and female together will they 'spoon'? heheh

"my clown loach used to do that"

'spoon'? or lay on it's side? :p

Well I had just added a clown loach

How big is your tank - clown loaches get big, very big, and they also like to be in groups of at least 3, even more if you have the room.

Raven why did you get the clowns? the topic you have in the other forum you said that you werent planning on getting a bigger tank. If you dont one day they will be dead on their side. Then after all the info you have gotten you just get 1 when they are very social fish and NEED to be in groups. Take the clown back. Plus the clicking noise never happens really unless their in a group.

two of my clowns and an angelicus sleep on their backs sometimes.
It was very nerve-racking when I first saw this.

After my Oscars eat they each have a favorite resting area where they go 'lay down' and often lean on something and sit there at a 45 degree angle for about a half hour...

Ah! Thats what that noise is! I have 2 clowns(I know, I know, I will be getting more)in my tank in my room. Last night I was woken up by this loud clicking noise, I freaked but couldnt find the culprit! Lol, I am releived to know it was most likely my clowns. Lol, wow.

P.S. Is it normal for Clown loaches to kinda fade when they are in the dark? Mine always get faded at night and brighten up during the day.

Its normal for them to fade at night. I know my clowns make the same noise, it interesting.

Clown Loaches sound interesting, how large do they grow adult size?
