Sleeping Fish

i've seen my fishies sleep before...usually when i'm on the computer late, and i go in my room at about 1-2 in the mornin....the first time i seen them like this, i thought that the water was cold all of a sudden or something....that was the only thing i could think of at the time that would put em all out like that! but then not long after they realized the light was on, they started wakin up n stuff....crazy fishies

One of my Bettas freaked me out the other day... he was on the bottom kinda tilted over. I thought there was something wrong with him so stuck my hand in the tank and waved my finger near him.... no response so I lightly touched him and BAM... he promptly lost all his color and flew to the other side of his tank. I'm sure he was 'sleeping' and I startled him awake. His color came back about half an hour later and he was perfectly fine again.

My cory is the one that freaked me out. Dizzy has got to be THE hardest sleeping fish. I'm not sure the smaller ones sleep at all....they are always on the move....but I just KNEW Dizzy was dead! I was nearly in tears....he is my fav.

My fish seem to have their own favourite spot in the tank to sleep in. One green tiger barb in particular will always get the spot right at the top by the filter outlet and then do the infamous tiger barb head-down-tail-up stance

How do u know if they are asleep???? Look for the zeees coming out of the tank

Hello,
All of my fish like to sleep on the bottom of my tank. It's real cool to watch. I usually turn off the aquarium light but have 1-2 lights still lit in the living room...so I watch them go from swimming like nuts...to slowly going to the bottom and getting real still. :)

Yup....

seems to me that my neons and bumblebee gobies lose their colors at night.

is this possible?

oh regarding sleeping....how can you tell for sure they are sleeping? :dunno:
I think so

I'v heard several people say that their fish lose colour at night and I read why once but now I've forgotten -_- My tetras do it too, tehy take a whie to get their colours back after I put their lights on.

At night, fishes don't need to display their mating/dominance potential so have less need for colouration.

You should of seen one of my Oto's. Once when I had to turn the lights on, in the middle of the night, I saw it had forgotten to change the colouration around its head?!

There it was waking up from its sleep with a dark brown body and a pale brown head. Sorry buddy fish !!!
