hi just wondered if anybody has any pics of tanks with slate in i have just aquired alot of slate and wanted a few ideas so any would be gratefull thanks

I would ask around in the african cichlid section. A lot of tanks for africans are rocky to provide lots of cover for the fish and I'm sure someone has a tank with the slate. :good:

If you are thinking of a more planted tank, I think that slate is used more to attach things to, instead of an actual piece in the aquarium. Also, caves for fish can be made out of pieces of slate. :)

Hiya,

Have just used slate myself in my new aquarium which is currently cycling. Its great to use to make caves etc. Will post some pictures at a later date.
Basically my partner just used a hammer and chisel to break the bigger pieces down, sand of any sharp edges, and started to make a cave. we had some small pieces and some larger pieces, so just arranged them, and checked it was sturdy and safe (it wasnt going anywhere to damn heavy) and when i put the lights on and added some plants it looks fantastic....
Specially with some bubbles going through from a bubble disk ;-)

Just cant wait for fish now................ grrrrrrrrrr..LOL

Have a look at some tanks HERE in the African section. A few of them use slate... the last one is my tank and ive mixed 5 large peices of plum slate with a few rocks and its worked well.
