Slated Tanks

hi just wondered if anybody has any pics of tanks with slate in i have just aquired alot of slate and wanted a few ideas so any would be gratefull thanks

I would ask around in the african cichlid section. A lot of tanks for africans are rocky to provide lots of cover for the fish and I'm sure someone has a tank with the slate.

If you are thinking of a more planted tank, I think that slate is used more to attach things to, instead of an actual piece in the aquarium. Also, caves for fish can be made out of pieces of slate.

Hiya,

Have just used slate myself in my new aquarium which is currently cycling. Its great to use to make caves etc. Will post some pictures at a later date.
Basically my partner just used a hammer and chisel to break the bigger pieces down, sand of any sharp edges, and started to make a cave. we had some small pieces and some larger pieces, so just arranged them, and checked it was sturdy and safe (it wasnt going anywhere to damn heavy) and when i put the lights on and added some plants it looks fantastic....
Specially with some bubbles going through from a bubble disk ;-)

Just cant wait for fish now................ grrrrrrrrrr..LOL

Have a look at some tanks HERE in the African section. A few of them use slate... the last one is my tank and ive mixed 5 large peices of plum slate with a few rocks and its worked well.
