I have a female convict (little over 2") in a 18G with a 2" BN plec. Shes always very skittish and scared. Always hides in the rockwork I ahve in which you cant see her. As soon as I can I will be buying a male for her buy I've only ever seen them 3 times in the past 9 months.

Anything I can add tempory to sooth her?

Are there plenty of hiding places in the tank? A fish which feels it has plenty of places to hide will be more confident when it does come out.

Getting a male might help. Or perhaps some dither fish.

i think they are breeding, my Convict/sajica/jade-eye pair hide for a few days and then eggs hatch and loads of free swimming fry emerge.
yes they are fertile hybrids.

If I knew how I would post an image of the tank. Has lots of bushy plastic and live plants (35% plastic 65%live). A largish cave with about 5 hiding spots, a large cave which has a opening on the front (a hollow skull with a hole in the bottom on its side) bit of flat rock and slate, natural gravel, cichlid condo rockwork, lights on for 9-10 hours a day.

I primary think its because she hasnt got anyone to interact with. Apart from the plec at feeding time.
