I got 2 goldfish and 1 blackmoor for my birthday on thursday. Two days later I saw my platys with something that seemed like tiny bits of salt in their skin. Today I did a 25% water change and the female look better than the male platys but I also noticed that the black moor has some white spots of a different kind it seems as if he got bitten. My corys and plecos look fine. Whats happening? Pls advice.

Need more info on size of tank in gallons or litres, plus water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
How many fish and which type.
Yes they have whitespot and you will need to turn temp up to 30, increase aeration as the high temp and med will reduce 02 in the water.
Can you describe the spots on the goldfish, where are they on the fish, how big are the spots, what colour are they, do they have a circling of red around them, or a red spot in the centre of them.
Also corys don't get whitespot.

Thanks for answering.
I have a 100L tank. I have just come from the fishstore and forgot to buy ph set but will do this afternoon. Anyway they told me I should put 15 ml of methyl violet and now my water turned dark blue.
As of now I have 2 platys, 2 pleco( sorry Istill cant find a picture just like it so I dont know what kind) 1 black moor and 1 red and white ranchu and 1 fantail. The spots in my black moor look silvery. Instead of being black it looks like a shinny kind of white they are like 1mm big and Ionly see 3 spots.
I don't have a heater because at the LFS they told me I don't need it because this is a hot country (28-35C). Should I get one anyway?
Today my fantail had white spots on its back tail.

You are well overstocked for a 100 litre, the first goldfish needs a 20gal, then ten gal for every other one added, they are massive waste producers and need excellent filters, i use two filters in my 40gal.
If the silver spot isn't raised i wouldnt worry about it for now.
I would invest in a bigger tank or rehome the goldifsh.

Should I give the 3 of them (blackmoor, ranchu, fantail) a new home or just one of them?
Went to the LFS and they dont sell amonia or nitrate sets just ph. They didn't advice checking my ph just now because my water is medicated now.

Yes i would rehome them all, sorry, but that tank size will not cope with them and they will die of ammonia poisoning.

Platy83,

Did you cycle your tank? What wilder said about the ammonia poisoning is true if your tank is not cycled and you need to get them out of there asap. However, if the goldfish are small, and your tank is cycled, they should be OK in that tank for a short amount of time. You would have to upgrade to a much larger tank in the future. Goldfish are large waste producers so need a lot of water to dilute the mess.

If they are getting sick now, it is most likely from poor water quality in a new tank. Check out these articles on cycling. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=141944

Thanks for your advice. My fish are looking alot better. I finally found the right kind of medication.
My goldfish are still small but I didn't exactly cycle my tank. I just let the tank sit for 1 week and I have used gravel.
Thanks for all the info.

Ok, good luck, and keep up with the water changes to get that ammonia reading down.
