If the description of a skimmer says sump only is this correct or with a bit of "adjustment" to the external plumbing could it be used in a tank? I ask as I am about to set up a tank without a sump and have the opportunity of a good skimmer at a good price, but it says sump only. Aqua Medic turboflotor 1000, not the multi though.

Any views on this?

Cheers

Turboflotors can be made to work either way. You just need to buy an extra small powerhead (think maxijet 600) to supply it with water if you get the 1000 (non-multi) model. Good choice :)

Thanks Ski.

As my only experience of skimmers is the built in ones in my 2 Orcas any advice is welcome. I've got the big and small with different types of skimmer and both work really well hence I'm surprised by the comments on here sometimes. As mine work so well I've never really looked at them as a separate issue. Any ideas where I could find information on how to plumb it up?

Thanks again

Well instead of plumbing the drain from the sump into the pipe the instructions tell you to, you just plumb a small powerhead to that pipe using some appropriate sized tubing. Really easy...
