Hi,

Right well I am ready to go to the next stage and put the salt in the tank ready for the live-rock next week... however I was fresh water testing my equipment this weekend and it seems that my skimmer is really noisy. I've seen lots of posts / sites about this and they suggest putting some foam under the pump. I did this and it has made a slight difference but I still think my misses is going to do her nut when she gets home to find we have a 747 in the lounge....

I have an H&S 110-F2000 for my 270 liter tank. I wanted to go the Tunze way but my LFS recommended this one over the Tunze one.

What is a reasonable amount of noise to have from a skimmer as I know there is always going to be some level of noise.

The only thing I can think of doing now is putting some kind of sound proofing foam in the cabinet where the sump is to try and lessen this noise a little. Its more of the resonant vibrations as apposed to a really noisy pump.

Cheers,
Mike

Your lfs is a fool. Tunze are only ever really beaten by the top end Deltec skimmers.

I have the Tunze skimmer for larger tanks (the 9010) and the sound is nearly silent. Only noise at all is a small one occasionally from the venturi inlet.

To quieten down a pump you want to put foam under the pump, and where anything connected to the pump touches the aquarium (so if the hose touched the top of the aquarium or something, put some foam there).

if its a venturi type skimmer the noise might be coming from the air intake you could try a piece of airline on it...
