i'm giving in to keeping a zebra moray and my best option at the moment is to set up a rio 240 for him.

the only thing is the tank is in my room so it needs to be quite quiet. I'ved noticed alot of skimmer hang over the side and over flow back in which will make quite a bit of noise. plus with juwel sides being quite high it will make it even worse.

are there any skimmers which just have a pipe going in and out or have a large over hang ability.

i don't mind drilling the tank and plumbing something in!

it is not generally the overflow water that makes the noise, it is the skimming section.

try the deltec mce600

Whilst i did use a Prizm skimmer on my old Juwel tank I know that these skimmers are not the quietest around (ALthough they can be modded to be quieter).

I do agree however that the MCE 600 is an excellant skimmer and much quiter (although the pump sometimes needs placing on a sponge). Its more expensive but you definately get what you pay for, well worth it IMO

I'm not too keen on the prizm. 1 of the guys at work had 1 and compared to his new aquamedic it was crap basically!

as it goes though i might just go straight onto a custom built tank to house the moray.

just got to work out what money I have at the moment!!

Are you the winning bid? if so then you have a great purchase there!

i sure am, just need the tank, filtration, lighting, heating, decor and some live rock now!

I did see the skimmer online for 190 but thats still quite a bit more so went for it, like the sound of the mod they did aswell, looks like it will be quieter!

Actually as it goes, would I beable to put some biological media into my current marine tank to gather some bacteria then when I come to getting my new tank up and running I would be have a more stable tank to put the eel in.

best thing to do is either take some of your current media and put it in the new setup, and replace with new (no more than half though)
or run your new filter in your existing tank for a while.

just putting the media in the tank - ie floating in a bag etc. - wont be as good.

I won't be able to run the new filter on my tank, would make it into a swirl pool!!

I run a sump on my current SW so putting a bag of media in there will be fine to establish it a bit.

I'ved decided on a Eheim Pro 3 2080 to filter the new tank.

I was at GLEE (big trade show), and got to see all the new stuff thats coming out soon.

First time I have seen a pro3 up close - didn't appreciate how big it was before!

Will probably post about a few other things I saw tomorrow, but highlights included

update to the TMC UV's ( clever new function to remind you to change tube, and slightly cheaper, better shape too).

Juwel tanks will soon be available in a dark wood colour (unfortunately still no silver though)

Met R-O Man, and got a pen

quite impressed with the tetra external filters

unfortunately they didn't have the new fluval ones, but lets face it, can only be an improvement.

yeh my manager and boss were up there today, so should hear about everything tomorrow at work. I know we have the new juwel tanks on the way! boss didn't fancy the "rekord 80" though, stupid size IMO.

hopefully got lots of leaflets to read through while we're bored tomorrow!

Ive met RO-Man, a great guy! I got a free dual TDS meter :p (Actually i won it rather than was given it)
