Hi all,

I am thinking of taking the plunge into the wonderful world of the marine setup, but want to start relatively small.

I am looking to piece together a small 30G FOWLR, (maybe moving onto soft corals later), was just wondering if a V2 400 skimmer would be any good, if not any advice on a decent skimmer.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

How about trying a Deltec MCE300, I have heard some good reviews abou it and am planning on getting one myself

I agree, the deltec and the tunze are far more reliable and easier to use.

Thanks Ski,

The deltec looks the best option for me right now. got my ro-man 4 stage ro set up today, two seio super flo pumps should arrive with salt tomorrow, heater is in and ok, tank running with freshwater at the mo to make sure no leaks etc. substrate should arrive tomorrow, got a 55w twin starter (compact) for lighting so upto 110w total which will run on tropiquarium 88 timer (anyone any idea on which colour spectrum tubes would be the best for fowlr & maybe soft corals). So I will get it all up and running and then time for LR, any ideas on where to get good LR in the UK?

Cheers

Those lights get very hot , Make sure you got cooling for them as they will heat up the tank,

TBH a skimmer is a skimmer but in my experience and from the three forums I am member of the V2 skimmer is by far the popular choice and this is what I have!

Hi Pengy,

Didn't think about cooling the lights thanks for mentioning it, I will sort something out.

With regard to skimmers, the v2 was my first choice but I think the deltec will suit where the tank is situated. Not using a sump on this tank as it is really a test case. If everything goes well and I get as much enjoyment as I think I will, then I'll probably upgrade to a 400 litre with sump and skimmer in cabinet below.

Yeah,

This is a problem I have :/ , when I like something I cant stop, her in doors getting very grumpy :D , currently running 120 litre community, 260 litre demasoni species tank, 260 litre mixed mbuna tank, just setting up this 120 litre fowlr test (which will become a sump for the 400 litre if all goes well). Problem is where the hell to put it :look:
