I have a six line wrasse and it has developed, what looks like, a white spot on its bottom lip. It tries to peck the glass to get it off, but this is not helping. Any ideas?

If it's ich then I personally think the fish be left alone and give him time to rest. They usually get rid of it on thier own. Adding a cleaner shrimp is also good. Check your water, lace the food with a little garlic and good luck.

That's from my personal experience.

I'm going to QT it. It will get contagious and spread. I do feed them formula one all of the time. It pecks at the glass to try to get it off. IMO QT is the best option.

IF the fish is otherwise healthy, QT is usually a good option. Dunno what the disease is though :(

if it is ich i know that a uv sterliser is good for white spot also a cleaner shrimp or a cleaner wrasse eats white spot :good:

UV - prevention but not cure :good:

In my experiences I have found that feeding your livestock little but often (every 2 hours) does make a bit difference

But as Ski says if the fish is otherwise healthy and easily removed then quarintine is a good idea, if no not chase the fish around the tank, this will simply cause more stress & compound the problem

UV has been my only cure/fix for whitespot/ich...

I've tried heat/rid ich (old tank)/and UV.

UV is safe and was the only thing that gets rid of and keeps it off my tangs. IMO its a cure and prevention device. Some say it takes stuff out of the water but my corals and fish don't seem to care... :good:

But I agree QT can't hurt till it gets better!

I can't safely say it is ich, but I don't know if my six line will make it. I had to remove most of my LR from the water to get it out of the tank. Then, I put it in a container and put loosely put the lid on. Somehow the lid got knocked off and while I was on the phone I noticed the wrasse jumping across my floor. I threw it in the QT and prayed that it would live. I'll find out tomorrow if I have a dead wrasse. Would it be a good idea to put all of my fish in QT? Can this hurt? I know it will be stressful, but I could jam up the heat on my tank and get rid of anything in there (for one month). Any suggestions.

Is it possible to make a DIY sterilizer?

Brandon

My idea was to get a fixture for the UV bulb and line the inside of a 2inch piece of PVC piping with hose. I would cap off the ends, drill a hole in the top of one of the caps and seal the fixture in it, thus making my own UV sterilizer... eh, who knows.

anyway, just wanted to update and say that my wrasse is doing well in the tank. I don't know if he has ich... I was thinking he does because he keeps flaring up and it appears as if he is scratching himself on the rocks. I also noticed that he flares up while he is looking at the glass... he could be doing this just to scare his reflection off, who knows. He is in quarantine and will stay that way for a month before he goes back to my main tank. Even if he doesn't have ich, at least I will have played it safe, right?
