Ello,

I got just home and my female green platy with a red tail has been resting on the bottom of the tank. She goes to the same spot and just sits there. Its been worrying me all day because when my other two started doing this I found them dead the next day. If I go up to the tank and put my finger on the glass next to her she swims away and keeps swimming around for about a minute or two but then goes right back to the same spot. I have tried to get a picture of her in this spot but when you get close she darts to the back of the tank. What is going on?

1. Water parameters. (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, PH, temp', Hardness etc)
2. A full description of the fishes symptoms.
3. How often you do water changes and how much.
4. Any chemicals and treatments you add to the water.
5. What tank mates are in the tank.
6. Tank size.
7. Finally Have you recently added any new fish?

Answering those questions will help us figure out what could be going on. :)

1. I don't have test kits so I don't know.
2. When one walks into the room she is sitting at the front of the tank between some larger rocks. When you get close she darts to the back and waits till you go away to go back to her spot. She is eating normally and is pregnant.3
3. About once a week, though I did a change today instead of tomorrow because I wont have the chance to tomorrow. I change 10%- 15%, 10 one week 15 the next.
4. When adding new water I put a very small bit of de-chlorinate and water softener and let it sit for about 5 minutes before pouring in.
5. She has Ghost shrimp, a female red wag and a male red micky mouse. Her 3rd, a female micky mouse, passed away last night.
6. A 10 gallon tank.
7. No, quite the opposite, I lost one last night.

That doesn't sound good. The last time i had a platy and a swordtail did that, they were dead the next day.

The water softer makes me think ph crash? You really need to grab a testing kit for us to be able to give any ideas as to what it could be.

I have been trying to get some but I live out in the middle of pet nowhere. I can't get any without traveling into town that's an hour away and my parents have been refusing to go get me the tests for pH and nitrates and ammonia..
