Sinking Neon!

Without knowing what the first cartridge is, it is difficult to know if needs replacing. The sponge and ball media don't ever need replacing. Simply do as you do ATM :good: I would replace that cartridge with some more sponge, to create a low maintanance and cheap to run filter system, as none of the media would need replacing :hyper:

its a cartridge with a tiny bit of sponge in it, and then it has some carbon in it. Rather useless tbh.

Would definately replace with a sponge or similar media then

Will do. The guppy is looking very off it...I will do stats regularly to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanx guys :)

Guppy died today...i have had my tank over a year & only had one death early on - now I have two in two days! Everyone else looks 100%. Stats look ok. I wonder what's going on? :(

Keep an eye on things. It could just be the late effects of ammonia and nitrite poisoning occuring in your fish, after cycling your tank nearly one year ago. It may also be internal bactiria. I would assume the first instance to be true ATM, and there is no treatment for this. Keep an eye on things, as you will need to treat if this is internal bactiria. Don't treat untill you are sure that the disease you are treating for acualy exists, as this may put extra stress on your fish. Anti-bactirial meds can also have serious effects on your biological filter.

ok thanks for that. It is a bummer. I really LOVE my fish...I mean, I don't have many & they're not fancy, but I really get a lot of pleasure from them & do my best to keep them clean & happy. If you have any other thoughts, do let me know. I'm feeling especially sorry for Guppy 2, who is lost without his boyfriend! ;)

Right now you are looking out for any loss of colour, bloating with raised scales, or sudden unexplained deaths. Swim bladder issues can also be related to this disease, but I would not yet atribute the problem to internal bactiria. If any of the above occurs in your existing fish stock, get some anit-bactirial meds into the tank. It is not safe IMO to add fish for arround a month, as internal bactiria can be presant, but not showing any symptoms, for a number of weeks before rearing its ugly head

I have use the interpet med to treat this disease with great success before :good: but as I said above, do not add this med to the tank unless you are cirtain that there is an infection, as adding this med indiscriminately can lead to further the problem

All the best

Thanks for your time Rabbut. Much appreciated. I will in deed keep a close eye on them & keep you posted IF we have any unwelcome developments.

Thanks for being here!
