hi
I just calculated the WPG in my tank and is .77 that is very low I have read that the normal is like 1.5
my tank is 31 gallons and haves a light of 24W t5 did I calculated right???

is .77 WPG ok for my plants ??
I have some elodea, vallis, and a h. polysperma
I'm thinking of getting a Ozelot Sword will that work???

should I get another light so it will be 2X24W t5 that will be 1.5 WPG I'm not sure to upgrade do I need to ???

thanks for the help ! :good:

The WPG rule really applies to T8 lights, as T5 lights have more energy.

So, I am guessing you are fine, but lets let someone else see what they have to say.

I'm not tooting my own horn, but my WPG is about .77 as well. Granted, I have t5 lights, but I also have a 36g. Yes, you can grow plants very well under those conditions.

You just have to know which species to grow, and many species are not especially light dependent, but rather more CO2 dependent. Several here have grown so-called "high light" plants under pretty low light conditions but with ample CO2 levels. I don't have CO2 in this tank, so I limit myself to plants that are not as CO2 dependant and not light dependant. Pretty much the tried and true "toughies" of the planted tank world. Yeah, they are not fancy, but they still look good. I have them listed in the last updated post. The tank's been set up with the current conditions, since I think July of last year? While the growth isn't rampant, it is still noticed. An easy tank to care for and the fish seemed pleased.
