I got 6 silver tip tetras yesteday, 3 male and 3 female, and this evening they have started going crazy. the males seem to be chasing each other round the tank over one female and then when they get close enough to the female they 'wiggle' next to her which she also does whilst sitting on the bottom of the tank. Is this breeding behaviour? i googled for info but couldnt find much.

BTW i love them already! they are very active and are almost shark like when you feed them, they seem to go into a frenzy :)

Mine do stuff like this extremely frequently.

I have 3 from my original group from 2 years ago, 3 newer ones, every time new fish are introduced they go crazy. Every morning they go crazy. Every other time they feel like it they go crazy. The main time when they're not crazy is at night and in the afternoons, but that can change.

Good like they are amazing hardy and active fish, never had any problems with them.

Oh and the morning frenzy is mainly because they know it's nearly feeding time.

glad its normal! they are very interesting fish and seem to get along with everyone else in the tank, they dont shoal so i presume they feel safe and they mix happily with the harlequin rasboras. my mum saw them in the shop and really liked them, i'd read a bit about them before and i'd been considering them, but she offered to buy them for me so i couldnt refuse really :)

Mine shoal together during water changes, night and late afternoon when they're in non crazy mode. They also shoal with my cherry barbs during these times, but the rest of the time the cherry barbs are almost-as-crazy-but-no-where-as-near-as-crazy-as my Silver tips.
