Hi, I want to add 5 silver hatchets (Gasteropelecus sternicla) to my freshwater tank, but was wondering if a pH of 7.6-7.8 is too high for them. Also I wanted to know if they are aggressive in any way? I have 5 neons, 5 glow lights, 4 corys, and 1 snail + some live plants.

Thanks.

PS. I could not find a subforum in tropical fish section for this type of fish, so I posted here.

I'm going to the lfs today. can anyone comment on this?

How long have these hatchets been at the fish store? If your tank water is like the fish store's tank water and the fish have been in stock longer than two weeks, there are much better odds they have adjusted.

If you are going to get some, please get more than five, 8-10 will do much better.

What size is the tank these are being considered for?
Tank setup (temp, filtration etc)?
Tankmates and their quantity?

mine are kept at 7.6
i did have 8 untill the other fish thought them as food (as they are quite small) now i have 6.
but with your stock even small ones will be fine

Lfs is getting new fish today, so their hatchets would not be in their tank for a long time if I get 5 today! For complete info on my tank take a look at my signature down here VVVVVVVV

My pH is around 7.8, so .2 should not be a big difference.

Thanks for the info
