had a quick look, seems this fish is known as a community fish, perhaps yours happens to belong to an anti social community. lol

Unless you live in tropical climes this would be a really bad idea, a quick Google says they should be kept in tropical temps of around 26degC. Please don't put him in the pond if you can't guarantee this temp as it would surely kill him.

Have you asked if your LFS will trade him for something more suitable? or maybe you could post an advert in the buy/sell/swap section of this forum asking for a good home for him.

Hi lissie :)

Unfortunately, many people get the wrong information about gouramis. Full sized males can, and often do, get aggressive with not only their own kind but with other fish too. Angel Fish and Gouramis are not a good combination.

Gouramis are territorial and it seems that he's claimed his space. To him the Angel is an intruder. You might try dividing the tank with tall plants or other decorations in an attempt to redefine the areas, but in the long run I think you will find that there is little you can do except remove the fish from your tank. :/

This post doesn't really suprise me, big gouramis can be meaner than cichlids, and I've personally witnessed a male Dwarf Gourami beat the hell out of a Red-Bellied Piranha. But them being so mean is quite rare... it seems to me that it is random.

my full grown pearl gourami had my pair of full grown angels wipped into shape within about 2 seconds of being in the tank.

ive got a dwarf gourami who keeps gettin beaten by the pearl when he starts on him and its so funny to watch!

jus as the pearl turns to swim away in victory the dwarf bites his tail and runs off.

thanks for replies i am advertising him in the buy and sell on this website..
in the mean time i am going to have to put him in my boyfriends tank as for a few days as he is getting a (empty) new one today.
My angel fish's fins have gone worse... has anyone experienced the same thing with their angel fish and another fish,.... do their fins grow back?
