Silver Dollars Problem.

Hello

Sorry if this is in the wrong section however I didn't know which section Silver Dollars would come under.

Anyway to my issue, we have 5 silver dollars in our tank and recently got 2 new plecs for the tank, it has black algae and we wanted to see if they would eat it.

For my tank I also have some "PlecoWafers" which I feed to my plec on a regular basis so I decided to throw a 2 or 3 in the main tank so that the new plecs had something to eat because I wasn't sure if they was eating the black algae.

Unfortunatley one of the plecs has died today which leads me to believe they do not eat it.

However our Silver dollars catch them as they are falling and keep them in their mouths and eat them so they are not getting to the bottom of the tank for our plecs!

Any ideas how I can get around this issue?

You can feed your silver dollars before you throw in the algae wafers. Sometimes they will ignore the wafers having been just fed. You could also try to toss the wafers in an hour after lights out.

Break up some wafers up into halves or maybe even quarters and throw in one piece per silver dollar. While they are busy with their little ration, throw in a few more for your plecs.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will give it a try when the lights go out in a bit.

I'll try breaking them up and also throwing them in while the light is out.

thats what i do, tho it is quite funny to see them swimming around wit a whole wafer i their mouths!

Just a quick update, I have tried both methods and feeding with the light off and breaking them up. Even tried them together.

But they still manage to get them as they are falling, little buggers!

Anyway I have put in one of them 4 day holiday block things that we had spare and the Plec that is remaining is still alive, not sure if he is eating that or not.

Maybe the one that died just died from being moved into a new tank I am not too sure.

I never knew that!

It doesn't seem to have done any harm to the fish but I will not be using them again

They mess up your water quality and generally arent good.
