Well he seemed to be getting better ... got in from a meeting to find this ....

Hole in the head disease - I thought so but then this is confusing ... there are these whitish patches on the fish and also the fins, they aren't as prominent as ich pictures I have seen. Look at this ...

This is the only fish showing these signs, yes the pH has been damned awful - below 6 so not measurable by me or the LFS, I have treated the tank now with a 25% water change and twice now with pH Normal 7 (the pH is still not measurable but I don't want to do anything else just yet), I have also added some 'ocean rock'. I also just treated this fish for fin rot and he seemed to clear up and was improving - the fins even seemed to be growing back.

Any suggestions welcome. PLUS ... and this is real important.

Will this infect my other fish ?? - I DO NOT yet have another tank / hospital tank but is this 'affliction' one that should warrant quarantining this fish - or will my others already be affected - they are showing no signs and all appear healthy and I am not prepared to sacrifice them but nor do I want to swamp them in meds they don't need.

Oh and if someone would care to tell me how to get decent fish pics I would also appreciate ....

White patches can be bacterial to parasite, and they can flick with both, are the patches fluffy like there were on his head.

yes quite fluffy ....

I actually tried to get a good look through the macro on the camera and it is / seems to be hairy ...

I also noticed similar white 'stuff' growing in one corner under the gravel so I have just done a 50% water change whilst cleaning out the gravel ....

I have dosed the tank afresh with Melafix and Pimafix
