Hi there

I just got back today to find my silver dollar with no tail and his finns are all raggedy.
Im not sure what has happened.
The other 2 are fine, i have put him in a breeder net for now but really dont know what to do
Any help would be great
Thanks
Eve

what else is in the tank?

Silver dollars don't normally chew each other’s tails. I would guess something else in the tank got it. You should be able to leave the fish in the main tank and watch it to see if anyone is picking on it. Monitor the tail for signs of secondary infection. If it goes red and inflamed then a bacterial infection is getting into it. If the area goes white and fluffy then a fungal infection has occurred. Melafix can be added to the tank to help reduce the chance of this occurring.

There is only 3 silver dollars and 2 gold severums.
There is no tail to look at, its completely gone.
I didnt want to leave it in the main tank as he was just laying on his side at the bottom, hes doing this in the breeding net now.

the fish is probably pis sed off because it is in the net. It is sulking. If the gold severums are mature and have started to set up a territory then they might have got stuck into it.

I dont think he is sulking, i think its more that he can swim due to no tail and hardly any fins left.
Will they grow back?

as long as the fish doesn't develop any secondary infections the fins will grow back in a few weeks to a month. In the meantime just monitor the fish and if the areas go red then a bacterial infection is getting in. If the area goes white and fluffy then a fungal infection is getting in. If necessary treat the fish for this but don't bother unless it gets an infection.

Ok thanks, will keep a close eye on him.
When he gets better should i put him back in with the severums or not?

if the severums don't show any agression to the other 2 silver dollars then it should be ok to put the sick one back in with them when it is healthy. But you will have to keep an eye on them for the first few days just in case. It might be the severums are happy with 2 silver dollars in the tank but not 3.
