We're upgrading to a 125 gallon tank, is it safe to fill with a garden hose - just the first fill, not subsequent water changes once it is up and running

just thinking that's a lot of buckets when it is being set up

thanks

Has the garden hose been previously used for washing cars or similar, had soaps/detergents running through it?
If not, then most garden hoses should be fine to use as long as theres no anti mould properties or suchlike.

I fill all my tanks with a hose and pump. I actually have 2 pumps and hoses one for water out and on for water in, this way none of my hoses get mixed up or used for anything other than the tanks :)

All the normal legalese in place. I'm not responsible for what happens in your tank.

Drag that hose in the window and let it go.

That said, you'll be doing regular water changes for the tank 5 years from now. If it already seems like a PITA....

Thanks!

I don't usually find tank cleaning a PITA, that being said there is a huge difference between 10 - 15 buckets for a water change and lord knows how many to get it filled the first time

Was worried about toxins in the hose, but looks like we'll let it rip

Cheers

I think I left an incomplete thought.

To clarify, I filled my tank by dragging the hose in the window.

I meant to suggest that you could look into ways to make water changes easier. There was a recent thread on the forum about people using their pythons or their hoses to even do water changes. You've got a nice, big tank. I totally agree with you. Lugging buckets is no one's favorite thing.

Use a hose! I use a hose from a kitchen tap to fill, and the same hose from a filter outlet to empty (water my pot plants with nitrate rich water!)

Loads of us who have large and/or multiple tanks use a hose for water changes. Doing water changes with buckets is a tedious job on big tanks, especially if you have a bad back, knees or whatever.

Use the hose!
