Silly Newbie Question

Ok, so I adopted a friends fishtank about a month ago. The tank wasn't really that clean when I got it and there is a large rock in the tank (always been in there) and there is alot of algae growing off it. Now I am starting to get what look like tiny snails growing on it. Is this bad? What do I do about it?

The other thing is gravel. Is there a way to clean it without having to take it out of the tank?

This should help, remove the snails, remove the rock and clean in hot salty water with a toothbrush, rinse well, then leave to dry out for aday.

to clean the tank without taking the gravel out is an impossible tsk the gravel has to be removed and rinsed once a week
ok i cant let you think this i have to apologise go to you lfs and buy a gravel vac pump this in the water and then drag it through the gravel
