At least thats what most folks say about my aquarium hobby.

Hello everyone! I recently got introduced to the fish keeping scene in Janurary when I recieved a 5 gallon fish tank. Like any other beginning fool, I'm sorry to say I killed 3 neon tetras and 2 red eye tetras due to my lack of researching.

After extreme researching about tank cycling etc... I now have a successful 5 gallon tank with NO AMMONIA and with 5 neon tetras and 1 algae eater.

I glad to join this community, I believe I will get better answers here to my question than the local pet store. I understand that most (not all) petstore will say stuff for a sale. Thanks!

Hello and welcome, :)
Glad to see you've done some research!

However the 'algae eater' you mention, do you know what it is or have a picture of it?
There is a high chance that it will be a common plec, a type of plec that can reach 14" and can get aggressive in their later years.

I also wouldnt put neon tetras in tanks under 6 months old and less than 60cm, but thats just my opinion.

:hi:

It could be a chinese algae eater which are also large aggressive fish.

Yes I've just thought of chinese algae eaters. Although they dont get as big as commmons they can be just as or even more aggressive as them.

Fishkeeping is not a 'silly hobby'. It's a very fascinating, complex and scientific hobby ;)

I get the same from my family. They think I waste my money and time. They don't get it but I absolutely love it
