i added some new plants to my tank and moved a few things around about 5 hours ago. just looked in tank.. everything fine accept my silver dollar is lying on his side and he looks like he is 'huffing' or as a human would breathing heavily. all of my other fish are fine! is he a gonner? what do you think it is? should i just let him die? is there anything i can do?

Sounds like it's been stressed out.. side note :silver dollars will eat live plants

i would wait and see what happens.. maybe turn the light out so it can rest.. could it have jumped into the lid or slammed into the glass while you were moving things around? I know mine tend to get spooked and fly around the tank really quickly

i'm hearing maybe the plants introduced amonia even though i cleaned them? should i do a water change? go get a test kit.. does wallmart have them?

Never heard of plants introducing ammonia... might want to try a water change... if it's just sitting on it's side breathing heavily it doesn't sound good.

Is it possible it might have anything to do with new plants or me moving things a little? Sorry, I'm new at this and confused? I added about 5 new fish yesterday.. is it true that could cause an 'amonium spike'? i just did a 20% water change and added cycle. if this is true.. are all of my other fish also endanger even though as of now they look ok.. silver dollar.. still over there dying..

PS i asked the girl at the pet store SPECIFICALLY if the silver dollar would be ok alone and she said "absolutely fine." i'm so sad. i've only known my new fish a day. but i think i really love him. or her.

silver dollars need to be in groups... they don't like being alone, and i would bet that's part of what's stressing the poor thing out. other than that, i don't know what to tell you.
