This may sound silly but I use a baby's toothbrush on the plastic plants. It may work for silk plants too. Just put it in a bucket of water and brush it carefully.

When my silk plants started showing that ugly brown gunk, I simply removed them from the tank, boiled some (cold) water, and then immersed them for a few minutes in the scalding water. My first attempt came out perfectly clean as soon as it touched the hot water- like magic!
One required a little bit of scrubbing in order to get the more persistent stains out, but other than that, it was a breeze and I didn't have to worry about adding a new chemical to my tank.

thankyou for the replies, i will try the boiling water first as im a lazy so and so an d if i have no luck i'll try the toothbrush.
again thankyou.
