I used some silicone to seal an acrylic splash guard to a lighting system last night. I used the G.E. 100% silicone for plastic sheets ect.. It says 8-12 hours cure time on the back, how long until I can use in the aquarium? It shouldn't get much water on it, but I want to be safe, not that any toxins get into the tank obviously.

At a guess... I'd say 8-12 hours lol :p

Hi Joe,

In this case, so long as the silicone has cured there shouldn't be a problem. People only wait 72 hours on tanks to ensure that it is fully set, otherwise it could weaken the seals, which is bad news if holding hundreds/thousands of litres of water lol

Since its only being used on the lighting as a waterproof barrier and not under any load, you should be fine to use it at the manufacturers recommend waiting period :good:

Hope that helps,

AK
