Silica Sand?

hi, somebody i know has used silica sand as the substrate for their malawi tank. is this ok?. just wondered because i see a lot of people are using things like coral sand. thanks

coral sand keeps the ph at approx 8 (ideal for malawi's) where as silica sand does not alter the ph.what is your ph? silica sand is perfectly fine to use as a substrate if you so wish.

but also if you use the silica sand you boost the ph in other calsius rock like lime stone or tufa will boost or try some broken or unbroken shells

1 of the trays in my external filter is filled with coral gravel.it keeps my ph at approx 8.2.
