I have a Prego SwordTail that is definately pretty darn fat, and is acting strangely. Her fin on the top (Dorsal?) is down and she is very very very jittery. I moved her to a birthing tank. Right or wrong Idea?

its okay if you think she might be about to have fry then there is nothing wrong with moveing her, but if she dont have by tomorrow then let her out.

I have swords, platys, guppys and mollys....I have a 5 gal tank as a birthing tank. I put the momma fish in there at least 48 hours before having the fry and 48 hours after... I find that this is less stress on the fish then from moving them 3 or 4 times in a short period... I have 310 fry all together right now... So it has worked for me...Good luck

Man I have such a hard time bredding swords.... I just wanna get lucky and raise some of my own. Right now she is in a 6 gallon birthing tank by herself.

I use a 10 gallon tank for raising my fry, but i prefer them birthing in the main tank, they seem more relaxed that way and all i hav to do is track the fry down and scoop them out, yeah i might lose a few because of other fish, but i have always had two fry at LEAST, which i am happy with, only recently i got a batch of ten, YAAY! double figures now, and thats from one of my preggy fish, i have another two that are still carring, i am going to have to give some of them away to me nextdoor neighbour when they drop...

O.O

But yeah it isnt a good idea to keep fish in a breeding tank for more than 24 hours, puts too much stress on the fish and she might abort giving birth...

48 hours? fishluver, do you mean a seperate glass tank, i think we are talking about those silly plastic things that are used inside the main tank, the small things that put stress on adult fish
