Are there any signs that a platy is about to drop apart from her belly turning a 'box' shape, as she isnt very fat at all and i wouldnt really be able to tell if her figure had turned boxy

sometimes they don't eat a day before birth, or they stay still...
but there isn't a sure way to tell.
I know it's hard, but try to be patient...
in time, I think you will be able to pinpoint the day your livebearers will be giving birth... just pay close attention to them.
I'm not an expert yet, but I am getting better... :p

When she makes mad dashes away from the male or begins sliding up and down the glass. At least, that's what happened when my guppy gave birth.

I missed it when one of my platies gave birth and I had the other in a trap.

hey
1. My male molly usually chases my female a week before she gives birth i duno if tis the same for platys

2.Live bearers are:Guppys
Mollys
Platys
swordtails
mosquito fish

anyone wanna add?

Also, she is showing all the signs of dropping soon like swimming up and down the sides of the tank and when she isnt swimming she is very still, but she doesnt seem to be interested in her food at all. Whats going on?

my tell tale sign for platies, is the 45deg angle they stay in, and they look labored no pun intended, but there breathing is faster, being a mommy myself I understand her pain aha!

Well, still no babies just yet but i just have to give her time i guess.
Yeah thats what she is sort of doing now but she is staying still at a 45 degree angle not swimming at a 45 degree angle.

Ok now i'm begining to worry that my platy is a xiphophorus maculatus platy and not a variatus platy. If this is the case the 'gravid' spot might not actually be a gravid spot
How can i be sure she is a variatus platy and that she is pregnant?
