I just pulled a dead guppy out of our main tank and now that I'm on paranoid alert.. I've noticed 2 other guppies hanging our at the surface of the water.
I do remember that the dead one did the same thing, but brushed it off as it just begging for food (like all my fish do when I get near the tank).
But I sat and watched them for a bit after I took out the dead one and noticed that these 2 aren't acting right.
I took them out and placed them in the quarantine tank, but I don't see anything wrong with them physically.
They're not gasping, not breathing heavy, no marks or anything on their bodies that I can see....
they're just not eating and keep swimming near the surface.
Aeration in both tanks is fine, water stats are fine.
All other fish are acting fine (for now).

Any ideas what could possibly be wrong with them?
Medication we have on hand... tetracycline, maracyn 1 & 2, melafix (i'd rather not use), and some external parasite stuff.

Are there other fish in your tank? Are they acting similar?
( I see you have tank setups in your signature but they may be out of date, so best to ask!)
Have you tried a partial water change?

I did a water change just yesterday.
There was 1 cory, 3 danios and 7 guppies (including the sick ones) in the main tank.
I took out the 2 sick, out them into the Q tank.
All other fish are acting normal. Spunky, eating like the pigs they are, etc etc.
One of the sick ones perked up a bit once it was in the quarantine tank. The other though isn't doing well at all.
I did a 70% water change in the Q tank just in ensure the water is as clean as possible...

Well thats all you can do sadly.
I too had some guppies that went very listless indeed - all hanging around at the surface exactly the same as yours. I did a 50% water change twice about 3 hours apart - and the following day they were like a different bunch.

If they are poor quality fish they could be sick of course - it could be stress - it be a whole host of things.

But I doubt its your main tank as the other guppies would be acting similarly and your cories would be up and down to the surface so often you would know something was up.

Fingers crossed for you - hope the little guys pull through!

Well the one guppy that perked up is doing fine. Is a bit scared in the Q tank, but he's not hanging at the surface any longer and looking very active.
Unfortunatly the other one died. Checked on them a few mins ago and it was laying on the floor dead :(

All I know is that we're never getting any fish (cept for bettas... maybe) at Petsmart ever again.
We've had nothing but trouble from the fish we've gotten from them (cept for my bettas) and I'm just sick of it.
