I went away for a day over the weekend and came back and my fish had died from fin clamp, but, i also found a baby fish in the tank. This was approximately four days ago. I changed the tank water and the fish seemed to be doing fine. But just a moment ago i noticed that one of the fish (a black platy, the male involved with the baby situation) was laying on his back! When I went over to the tank he started moving around more, but there seems to be liek a flap of skin on his head or something? I don't know if it's a cut? Some kind of diesase? I'm really concerned. No sign of white spots, no signs of fin rot or clamp. My other platy seems a little flinchy at times, telling me theres somthing wrong but they don't LOOK sick. Are tehy stressed about the addition of the net like thing i put in for the baby?

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Once a fish is on its back it rarely makes it.

Can you load a pic up of the sick fish.

Any sharp objects in the tank.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing or gasping.
What do you feed the fish.
Does the fish look bloated or thin.
Does the fish look pale or darker in colour.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.

It's a 10 gallon tank, pH is normal, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are 0. I bought a heater today b/c the fish store told me it could be a heating problem (used to be 72 degrees F, now increasing to 78). 2 Adult black platies, 1 adult sunburst platy, 1 baby play in netted off section. I feed them tropical fish flakes once a day. It's hard to say if it's darker or not since the fish is black =/ . I tried to take some pictures but it's hard to get a good quality =(

I know these are really bad pictures..my battery just died though, I'll try to get some better ones up when it recharges.
Ik it's blurry, but i'm talking about the white spot on his head.

Its always best to have a heater as an unstable temp causes stress and desease.

I would issolate the sick fish and try a bacterial med. Just to make sure the wound dosn't get infected.
Is the fish still laying on its back?

He's not lying on his back anymore. He's swimming around right now just fine, though last night he would just sit on the bottom, upright, with his fins clamped. I have a feeling the same thing will happen again later.

What's your location.
