My female dwarf gourami died about a week ago, and aprt from a small patch near her head which seemed a bit dull there were no physical signs of her being unwell. She was always a bit shy noth the dwarf gouramis were, but she was feeding and behaving within her normal habits with the exception of this mark I noticed. It was only ably 2mm long and imm wide, however she was dead the morning after I noticed it with no apparent progression of the disease or whetever it was.
Today I was checking all the fish as usual and noticed the male seemed off colour a bit evasive, hiding more than ususal and a little lethargic too. Once I manged to get him to come to the front of the tank more I could see two small white spots/bulges at the back of his neck area. The one on the right is slightly larger than the one on the left whcih looks more like a dull patch than a white spot. I think this could be my first cas of whitespot. I have tried to take pictures see below, any advice/confirmation would be welcome.
Water parameters are fine, I do water changes every two weeks, there have been no new introductions since mid November. Tank companions are a few guppies, pair of swordtails, pair of pearl gourami, pair of dwarf honey gourami, 6 cardinal tetras, six zebra danios and three corydoras. I am pretty sure the tank is a 55ukgal.

I've been trying to add a pic but it says the file is too large and I don;t know how to change it, will keep trying, but any advice you can give from the above would be appreciated thanks.

Hi, the best way I can describe them is looking like tarnished silver. I have just managed to add pics in the next post.

Do you mean rusty colured spots, any signs of laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing.

No, pale whitish silver. Almost looks as if one or two scales are missing but I can't be sure that they are. Most fish reflect light so beautifully. he doesn;t seem too bad is still feeding and does not appear to be in any distress, just a bit quiet.
By the way none of the other fish look sickly in any way. I have been looking closlely at them all.

Usually you use interpet anti fungus and finrot med, but sometimes it dosn't work on it's own so you have to half dose with anti internal bacteria med by interpet as well.

I'm not sure whether to try meds yet as all the other fish seem pretty well, and I am wary of throwing the cycle out. I should be able to set up a small tank for this gourami tomorrow and if I can isolate him I will try treating then.

Thanks for you help

Few daily water changes on the main tank, it want's treating in issolation as it can soon kill a fish, good luck, also add abit of salt as columnaris hates salt, one talbespoon to 5gal.

Have to agree with Wilder. It looks like Columnaris. I'd treat with an anti-internal first. If you go the other route it could well be too late. The longer the fish is left the more likely he won't survive. :(
Hugs,
P.

Thanks for all the help and advice, saly time wasn;t on my side, he was dead this morning even though the physical signs had not changed he was feeding last night. I did put him in one of those floating breeding tanks as it was the best I could do for the night nad set up my sick tank so it would warm up etc by this morning.
Still not too bad considering this is only my thrid fatality since August and one of those was a tetra I had bought home less than 24 hours before.
One last piece of advice on this one, how long should I leave the tank beofre introdusing any new fish. I was thinking a month?

One again many thanks for help

Firebelle

Sorry, R.I.P. Yes leave it a month, also do a few daily water changes, good luck.

I use software that is free called Infanview. If you download it you can then open your picture in it and go to images there is a heading called, "refram/resize" resize to whatever pixel you want then you can upload it here.

Sorry I am not knowing of the disease you speak of.
