Sick Swordtail

One of my female swordtails had 17 babies that I caught last weekend. Then on wednesday She gave birth to 3 more lives ones and about 20-30 dead ones. Since then she has been doing alot of hiding. I havnt seen her eat hardly at all. She is just not herself. I did a 25% water change wednesday night. All stats are good. All my other fish are fine with the exception of my male swordtail as my male guppy has been harrassing him and hes missing part of his top fin (not sure what its called) but even he has been acting fine swimming witht the others and eating like normal.

Any ideas as to what can be wrong with my female? What I can do for her? Also is there a way to help my males fin grow back quicker? Its not all the way gone but it looks sore and is red at the tips.

When you say dead one's these was fully formed fry, or where they eggs?

As before giving birth to the fully formed fry, females are already growing the next batch of eggs. if she's shed these as well then it must be bad as they have to very badly stressed for some reason.

It's well know that all livebearers can give birth over 2 days but usually not from but for them to be dead is strange.

Your doing the right thing with water changes and I'll carry on with that doing 25% every third day for 9-12 days treat the water with a good general treatment, something like melifix or protozin.

They were fully developed fry. They looked like they had some fungus growing on them when they came out, or they were decaying maybe. Its kinda hard to explain. I will do another water change tonight. Then tomorrow i am going to the LFS to see if I can find some melifix or protozin. I have quick cure. I dont know if that will work for her.

She did come out of hiding for a little bit today. I saw her eat a little bit as well. Hopefully shes getting better. I will let you know the outcome.

Well it's not good if they was born dead and looking half decomposed, something major must of happened to her and this would explain why she's not right.

Go for melifix and keep doing the water changes like i said this should bring her around, also get some live food like daphina for her.
