I need help with a diagnosis/treatment for my sick Sterbai. I brought it home around 4 weeks ago looking perfectly healthy. It now pretty much stays in one spot on the gravel, sporadically swimming with his mates, then settling back down on the gravel.
Symptoms - No signs of damaged fins, no visible signs of parasites, no signs of spots or abrasions on the body. What i have noticed is that his barbels are slightly shorter than the others and the area from his mouth to the eyes are a definite shade of crimson, but without obvious signs of swelling.
Parameters - 24 degrees, 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 10ppm Nitrates, Ph 7.2, gH 11.
Yesterday, i treated the tank for an outbreak of snails using Interpet Anti-Snail.
Can anyone help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.

It would seem that it is too late to do anything. At 5:15, the cory was motionless upside down at the bottom of the tank. I went to net it and it swam away for a few inches but then dropped like a stone, motionless again. Seems obvious it's not gonna recover, so have decided to do the decent thing.
Would still like to know if anyone recognizes the symptoms for future reference, for if any of my other fish show similar symptoms. Anyone?

Right it sound bacterial and corys are very prone to bacterial infections, and a sign of a bacterial infections is when it affects the barbels, to save the fish i would get the fish onto a bacterial med as quickly as possilbe, good luck.

Unfortunately, he bit he dust. For future reference, is Melafix ok as a treatment, or do you know of a good specific med. Thanks.

Sorry for your loss, R.I.P. Depends on your location for a med.

Anti internal bacteria med by interpet was your best bet, but it's not that strong.
