Help!! i bought a male Siamese Fighter 3 weeks ago and he has been a healthy and active fish. 3 days ago I bought 3 female Siamese fighters but one of them didn't look quite right. being new to this I assumed she was a little bit different. The following morning I found her dead, her body was bloated and she had a little white patch on one side. I took her back to the shop and the assistant said everything was ok. Today another of the females has died and my male is loooking very sickly. I've put him in a seperate tank but he is very inactive and seems to be using only one of his fins. He keeps coming up for air and then sinks to the bottom of the tank. He has been fine up until the first female died and I'm wondering if perhaps it is some contagious disease. Does anyone know what it is and is there a cure? Please help.

First off should never keep male betta with females,so yes put him in his own tank.
Stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
With the white patch and bloating up is sounds like a bacterial infection was the white patch fluffy or just a bleached out mark on the fish, if the other fish is the same i think i would medicate the tank with a bacterial med, increase aeration in the tank.

Thanks for the reply. Too late, my male fighter has died and I'm gutted. The patch was more a bleached out mark on one side. I'm new to keeping fish but had so much conflicting advice from so called specialists! the male and females were actually getting along okay. we have one single female fighter left and am hoping she will be ok. the stats are all ok, we had them tested and everything is pretty much as it should be. Is there anything we can add to the tank to make sure the female is okay. Many thanks

No flicking and rubbing on things, if not i would add a bacterial med but don't know your location.
R.I.P. to the fish that died.

Thanks for your condolences. None of them appeared to rub themselves against anything. The first female to die seemed to be a bit bloated and now the last one looks slightly bloated. She is is swimming about quite happily but then so were the others. I live in Northampton but don't know the best place to go. What type of bacterial med would I have to use?

Try some shelled peas on the fish, cook frozen peas in boiling water for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
I would try myxazin by waterlife for now.

Thanks again, I'm going to try that now. I'll keep you posted :D
