Hello,

I need some advice on my aquarium... I've got 3 redcapped oranda's in a 30 gallon tank... Two are larger and we've just added another smaller one (recently upgraded to a larger tank as the fish outgrew the other one).

One of the larger ones scales seem unhealthy and parts of its redcap are less red.

The new smaller fish has a sore on its side that seems to be getting worse.

I'm sorry but I don't have any info on the water conditions, we've been careful to age any new water added to try and reduce the chlorene levels and have added new water treatment also.

I've attached a photo... of all three fish...

If anyone has any advice it would be greatfully received.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey and :hi: to the site

You should be adding a water condtioner to the tap water to remove chlorine and chloramine. Ageing does not effectivley remove these.

Your fish's scales do not look good at all. It is normal for goldfish to change colour as they mature but the scales look like they have come off. I had goldfish that loast a few scales and were fine.

The best thing is to make aure you have very clean water to aid the healing process and perhaps treat with melafix (or 100 parts water to 1 part tea tree oil) and paerhaps aquairium salt as well (1 table spoon per 19 litres).

You could use actual meds but that's not a good idea until we know exactly what should be treated.

You should try to test your water parameters to check that they are all ok.

30 gallons is also a bit on the small side for 3 of those guys. I used to keep 3 of them in a 55gallon and that was even a little much. you could have high levels of DOC causing them stress.
